Madison Technical Schools

When it comes to higher education, Madison technical schools are a good option for their variety of education programs—from nursing to culinary arts to business management and more—that don't require a four year degree. Technical programs often last from one to two years and lead to a certificate, diploma, or two-year degree. They teach valuable skills in the student's chosen field, and because of the relatively short amount of time it takes to complete a technical program, the student can enter their chosen field sooner. The shorter time period also means that the student pays less for their education, especially when they choose to attend a state-sponsored school.

Madison, Wisconsin has a large network of 16 state-sponsored technical schools known as the Madison Area Technical College (MATC) System, as well as a few that are outside of that System. The largest of the schools within the system is Madison Area Technical College. Some common divisions within different Madison technical schools include Health and Human Services—which encompasses the full range of health support careers like nursing, radiology and phlebotomy—Business, Information Technology (IT), Business Management, Manufacturing and Construction, Aviation, Accounting and Office Support, Culinary Arts, Digital Design, Automotive, Public Safety and Agriculture, though the programs available will vary from campus to campus. Some Madison technical schools also offer GED programs for adults who wish to complete their high school education.

Some schools also have apprenticeship programs that allow students to gain experience before actually entering their field.

Schools like Madison Media Institute School of Media Arts cater to one area specifically. The Media Institute offers Digital Art and Design, Entertainment and Media Business, and other media-related fields. These schools might be a good choice when they are available, since they concentrate more on a specific field than on a variety of fields.

After graduating from a Madison technical college, your opportunities for employment will vary depending on the field you go into. Students in the medical field usually go into the professions they study for. Graduates from a culinary arts program can go on to be line cooks or sous chefs, a graduate from a two year nursing program can go on to become a registered nurse, and a graduate from and IT program can go on to be a technical support technician or a consulting associate. Generally an education from a technical college prepares the student for an entry level position in an occupational field.

You might also choose to go on an earn a higher degree, such as after completing your GED. As mentioned before, enrolling in a Madison technical school is a good career choice since the student can learn valuable career skills in a shorter amount of time and for less money. A certificate, diploma or degree in a technical field makes you a viable, competitive work candidate, and completing an apprenticeship program gives you valuable experience to add to your resume. Among Madison's many technical colleges and schools, you are sure to find a program that suits your needs and ambitions.
