What One Should Know If Interested in Architectural Schools

Architecture is the creation of a humanistic art masterpiece. It uses the creative side of one's brain to tell a story through the design of buildings and other physical structures for human shelter. Architecture is usually not accomplished solely by an individual, but instead by a group of people. It is known as a social art. According to Wikipedia, a school is defined as, “an institution or place designed to allow and encourage students to learn, under the supervision of teachers”. If you put these two words together, you derive with the words- Architecture School. This is a place where pupils study to enhance their interested art skill of creating, and understanding prior created buildings.

High School students can explore this field by enrolling in, and understanding courses such as Art, Oral and Written Communications, Humanities, Physics, and Mathematics. It could also be helpful to understand CAD software. Utilizing a sketchbook, these young students can also work on activities such as completing 15-minute free hand and line sketches from observation. Once the high school student graduates, he/she is now ready to attend a college or an university. There is the choice to attend one of several professional Architecture Schools throughout the world. Some of the countries that offer Architecture studies include: Turkey, Europe, in the Caribbean, Greece, Japan, Russia, Iceland and the United States. Within the United States, there are over 100 Architectural Schools for students to choose to attend. Some students earn their Bachelors Degree in Architecture which is required to practice this discipline. Others go on to earn their Master’s degree which qualifies them for management or teaching positions.

Once enrolled in an Architectural Program, dependent on the school one selects to attend, there are several courses he/she will complete as a part of the curriculum. Some courses include: Visual Communications, Design Studio Implementation, Basic Design and Research, Architectural and Building Drawings, and Construction Technology. After graduating with an Architectural Degree, several places within the United States require students to be licensed in the state he/she plans to work. In addition, after graduation the majority of states require the following three things from students:

1. Have Internship Experience 2. Pass Architect Registration Examination 3. Graduate from a NAAB (National Architectural Accrediting Board) Accredited School

With an Architectural Degree, one will learn how to prepare drawings, plans, specifications and other construction documents. One may also serve as a project coordinator who can use these construction documents to design services to plan the project, as well as serve as the professional responsible for coordinating all the design decisions in the project. Architectural work includes that of town planning, urban design and landscape architecture. However, besides an architectural job, graduates have options for employment such as Civil Engineering, Urban Planning and Real Estate Development.

In conclusion, the world is filled with the Art of Architecture. Given the opportunity, one interested in this field can begin preparing at a young age. While attending Architecture Schools, internships provide practical experience that can later provide life returns.
